Observed But Not Really
A photo project about the stories we make up about strangers. The tagline reads:
candid moments, reconstructed.
unreliable at best,
highly improbable at worst.
The photographs are real. I take them on the street, candid, unposed, usually before anyone notices. Everything around them is invented: the names, the small facts, the interiors I claim to see. The caption tells you less about the photo than about the person writing it, and I am an unreliable source. But better read for yourself:
Why subscribe
This is where the writing around the book lives: how I stumbled onto this way of working, an honest explanation of a dishonest book, and why photography is a comfortable place to tell lies. I post irregularly. I won’t promise a schedule, because I won’t keep it.
About me
Nerd. Street photographer. Queer. Observant. Socialist. Awkward. Decent at conversations. More comfortable taking pictures than writing about them, but working on the writing part.
